A real tree AND colored lights

According to Scotty, because we live in the "evergreen" state, it is something of blasphemy not to have a real tree. I decided that this year I would give in and get a real tree, even though the previous two years I have successfully gotten my way with a fake one (I love my shedless, waterless, pre-lit tree) This weekend we went to a HUGE 10 acre Christmas tree farm.

The weather was beautiful and Jack was in 2 year old heaven. That kid ran circles (literally) around those trees until he couldn't run any more.

Scotty was nice enough to let me pick out the perfect tree and then he got to feel all sorts of manly cutting it down with a saw

And here is the Beauty...lit in all her glory! Oh, a side note: I hate colored lights, loathe them in fact. I think they are tacky. Scott has been begging and pleading with me to get colored lights this year, claiming "white lights aren't as christmasy or festive". I decided that since we splurged on a real tree I would once again appease my man and give in to the colored lights. I guess I am coming around because I hate it less and less everytime I look at it. Maybe by Christmas I will even (gasp) enjoy the colored lights...it will be a Christmas miracle!

***Scott also wanted tinsel, yes, tinsel on the tree. I drew the line there. no tinsel. ever.

You know, Ryan and I have been married for almost 11 years and every Christmas one of my favorite things is letting go of "MY" Christmas and taking on a bit of "HIS". I think that is what makes it "OURS". It's a bit unique from what we both experienced, but it is a little of what makes Christmas magical for both of us.

You know, I never thought Christmas would be Christmas without Santa setting all of the goods out un-wrapped. I am proud to say that this year, every last gift is wrapped and I can't wait. It will be SO much fun!

OH and on a tree note...I prefer mine white lighted with a crafty touch to it. I just found out that that isn't Christmas to Ryan. It has to be colored lights and mix match kid made decorations...well, there are lines that can't be crossed. Next year there will be TWO trees! :)

It is a beautiful tree! But...I'm glad you held out on the tinsel. Bianca is so darling and Jackson looks like he is in little boy paradise. Miss you.

I just want to know how you keep it looking like that. Martha Ann and Lydia would have that tree demolished in 30 seconds.

It looks good Jill, even if it has colored lights. When we get a house and our kids are a little older, my plan is to have two trees, a nice decorated one and a little one for the kids to decorate. Hopefully my dream comes true. Happy Holidays!!

Ditto on the colored lights. I wonder why they are even sold in stores.

I keep telling myself every year that it is our last year with a real tree, and then we just do it again. But until we have kids protesting otherwise, I am decorating it how I want to. It seems all the husbands I've heard of are sad to not have a nostalgic tree. KC didn't say a word. When our kids start making homemade ornaments, we'll have a special tree for them. It's funny how Christmas has to be such a time or compromise for most couples.

haha you're too funny! I don't like colored lights either. I will always prefer white lights! It looks nice though even with colored lights :-)

Your tree IS "christmasy and festive." Good work on the tree hunt. Your kids look cute all bundled up.

So pretty. How fun to cut down your own tree, I bet that was a different experience! Thanks for your comment on my blog, I will seriously consider it!

I love your tree! I don't like 5 different colors on the tree, but I like one or two different colored lights. I hate tinsel too. My mom loved it and had it every year along with the real tree. I know what you mean by no tinsel and a fake tree.

How fun to get a real christmas tree. We went up in the woods once to get one and that was the end of that fun experience. So fake one we have! But i must say i love colored lights. But it might be because that is what we always had on our tree. so it doesn't seem like a christmas tree without them! lol. but your kids are dange cute. this is whitneys (shore) by the way i changed my name thingy! jwhemi.blogspot.com

I once had a real tree with colored lights and popcorn strings, and colored popcorn balls, and candy canes and gingerbread men.
Now that's really giving in (to your children). Just be glad it's your hubby...
(I do still look back at it fondly however)

Ha Ha Ive always been raised to believe that colored lights are white trash too... Maybe thats part of the reason my mom likes you so much. I swore up and down I would carry on my family tradition of having a real tree... until I was the one who had to put lights on it last year. Nw we have a fake, pre-lit one and life couldn't be easier:) I do miss the smell however. I still need your address! We miss you guys.
